How are structures placed from a seed?

Minecraft splits the world into a grid of square regions and gives each structure type at most one attempt per region. The seed decides where in the region the attempt lands, then the game checks the biome there: a village, for example, only spawns if the spot is plains, desert, savanna, taiga or snowy plains. In Bedrock, villages use regions 34 chunks wide with at least 8 chunks between attempts.

Java and Bedrock use different random generators and spacing for this step, so one seed gives different structure positions in each edition — the reason the map asks for your edition.

How do you locate a structure with a command?

With cheats on, /locate structure points to the nearest structure of one type. A seed map shows every structure around you at once, without cheats, so achievements stay on.

Locate command syntax in Java and Bedrock
StructureJavaBedrock
Village/locate structure #minecraft:village (Java 1.19+; on 1.18 use /locate village_plains or another village type)/locate structure village
Trial chamber/locate structure minecraft:trial_chambers/locate structure trial_chambers

Which structures are coming next?

A structure type is on by default only when it is Checked: at least 95% of the positions shown are real and at least 95% of real ones are shown, against the game on Java and Chunkbase on Bedrock. A type below 50% on either count is hidden from the map:

  • Woodland mansion, Bedrock. Hidden: fewer than half of the positions shown were real. Chunkbase (Bedrock 26.50, 22 seeds): 1 of 4 shown are real; 1 of 1 real one shown.
  • Pillager outpost, Bedrock. Hidden: fewer than half of the real ones were shown. Chunkbase (Bedrock 26.50, 22 seeds): 3 of 4 shown are real; 3 of 64 real ones shown.
  • Ancient city, Bedrock. Hidden: none of the real ones were shown. Chunkbase (Bedrock 26.50, 22 seeds): none shown; 0 of 72 real ones shown.

Not on this map yet:

  • Nether fortress
  • Bastion remnant
